......You can say that again!

This 4th of July weekend many Americans will be having fun with friends and family, watching fireworks, eating watermelon and  other locally raised fresh produce and grilling outdoors. There is nothing better than this summer time tradition. The one aspect that isn’t much fun is cleaning the grill after those great steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken have been cooked. If you cook like I do you have sauces, marinades and grease all over the grill. This year I don’t worry as much about the mess because I found a great product that makes clean up easier.

The best cleaner I found for the grill is Wash Tyme Handmade Soap. Wash Tyme specializes in making natural vegetable glycerin soaps that cleans exceptionally well and is gentle. The glycerin used is the byproduct of making biodiesel from recycled & filtered vegetable oil. By making soap from this glycerin, there is no down-stream waste!

I keep a 50/50 solution of Wash Tyme liquid cleaner/water in spray bottle by my grill at all times. When the grill cools I spray it with this solution, I wait a few minutes and then wipe it down with water. The seasonings, marinades and grease simply wash away. My grill is clean and looks shiny. Last weekend a guest looked at my grill and commented that it was a very clean and impressive looking grill. That comment is enough to bring a big smile to any man who is king of his outdoor domain when he is grilling! Wash Tyme helped create that special moment.

I like Wash Tyme because it works. The fact that is created from a byproduct of making biodiesel from recycled and filtered vegetable oil, which means there is no waste and the fact that Wash Tyme located in my own community makes it an even better choice. Reflecting upon this I feel great to be supporting a local business during this truly American holiday; it creates a sense of community for me. It makes me think about
supporting our local communities, helping each other to prosper, allowing all of us to pursue a better life and enjoy our freedom. It makes me think that this is exactly what our founding fathers did. It was the determination, cooperative and supportive efforts of our founding fathers which helped make this Country great and made it possible for us to celebrate Independence Day – 4th of July.

Get some Wash Tyme soap to help clean up your grill.  Help make your local communities and America thrive by supporting your local businesses. And, most of all have a fun and safe 4th of July celebration with your friends and families.  -  Patrick Kennedy, Superior Woodcraft

For anyone who hasn't tried Wash Tyme soaps: you're really missing out!! Awesome for everything from bathing the dogs to washing my husband's work clothes and getting sap off of my husband (he's a tree climber). I barely use any body lotion anymore-- my skin is not dry like it used to be when we used regular soap. The bonus is that I feel so "green" using your soap!!!  Go buy some!"

Video review of our liquid soap!!!

Your soap really does dissolve grease...we use it for the floor, stove, and countertops. Thanks for your dedication! - Stephanie Walker

I used the liquid soap on my range exhaust filters. I've never been able to clean them so well. It degreased them amazingly well, they look like new! (no exaggeration)  - Lydia Grossov

"Ever since I tried your ugly duckling soap that I bought at A-DAY at Delaware Valley College I've loved your soap! It actually makes my skin feel clean, store bought ones seems like they leave a scum layer on me. I have not gone back to the store bought ones for this reason! OH, also your soap is moisturizing! I am BIG into the all natural thing and thats another reason I absolutely love this soap of yours. SO, thank you for making this product."

"Love your soap. It brings back memories of my mom using a brass washboard and Fels Naptha Soap to clean my dads white shirts. He was a RR conductor on the Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy RR, now the Burlington Northern."

"Just a quick note to let you know that the soap I purchased from you

at the 2009 Del Val A-Day Festival is great.  Working with the variety of textiles that I embroider on every day (especially tricot) really takes a toll on my skin - but since I began using your soap several times a day for the last 60 days, I've stopped using any other lotion or that expensive hand cleaner from Bath & Body that I was using.  More good news..... although it's been used many times a day over the last 60 days, the one $3.00 bar in use is only about 30% consumed! The not-so-good-news; at that rate the three bars I purchased in April 2009 should last until October of 2010!"

Thanks again,

"I just wanted to drop you a note to say how much my wife and I love your soap! Various bars now grace the counters in every bathroom and the
kitchen. My wife really likes the lavender scented bars. Every winter, the skin between my knuckles gets dry and scaly to the point where the skin cracks. Ever since I've been using your soap, the dryness is completely gone! The skin between my knuckles is soft and supple. I can't wait to have an entire winter next year without my hands hurting!

The liquid is the most amazing laundry pretreatment we have ever seen. Our family has yet to find a stain that it can't get out! Blood, grease, tomato sauce... truly amazing! It'll even take grease off your hands in cold water!

Thank you again! We'll be back for more!"

"I have used your liquid soap to do laundry, wash dishes, clean the bathroom.  The liquid soap mixed 50/50 with water in a spray bottle cleans the shower/tub easier than anything else I have used previously. It also removes grease from dishes better than commercial dishsoap. I use a bar of soap in the shower. The bar soap doesn't dry out my hands like store bought soap does. Both the liquid , and the bar soap are just great at cleaning. "

" the soap is great we had a picnic today and we had crabs and as we well know it takes days for the smell to go away , but everyone used your liquid soap to wash there hands an could not believe the odor was gone. Having a working kennel I get very dirty and I use it t clean my hands a pre- clean or stain remover action on my filthy clothes the product is great!"
Thank you ,

Common Question:

Since the veggie oil has been used to cook food, does the glycerin have impurities? How clean is the stuff I’m cleaning myself with?

Thanks,
Tanya

Answer from Dorinda:

My husband is involved in the bio-diesel industry and through that we got involved in making the soap.. and ended up buying the soap business from the brown soap company. Most of the work is done by my husband and his business partner...so I will let him tell you the process which is written below.

We have been using our soap on ourselves and our much loved dog, Maya as well as throughout our home - including laundry for over a year.  The only impurity I guess would be the color... but it is clean and safe or I would not use it on myself.... let alone my little love Maya.

Just like recycled glass and plastic is not simply rinsed out before being reused, the recycled vegetable oil goes through a thorough process before it becomes our soap.

See below for the process....from my husband Andrew:

"If it was processed glycerin from virgin vegetable oil it would be clear, this is a recycled product and because the oil has been heated to over 300F our glycerin is dark. First the used vegetable oil is heated and filtered to 15 microns (for comparison a human hair is 100 microns).  Then the oil is actually put through a reaction to make bio-diesel where it is reacted with a solution of methanol and potassium hydroxide(caustic) at 140 Fahrenheit for 2 hours.  During this process the glycerin is stripped from the oil as it becomes biodiesel or methyl esters.

Glycerin is a byproduct of that process, it is then distilled at temps up to 260F to recover excess methanol which occurs over about 24 hours.   We then filter it again before using it in our soapmaking.

To contrast this- an autoclav; used to sterilize medical equipment, uses steam at 130C for a period of 3-15 minutes and the items are considered sterilized, and for the elimination of prions a temp of 121-132C for an hour or 18 minutes at 134C.  132C = about 266 Fahrenheit.

To make soap that is white or different colors you must use titanium dioxide, an additive that is used in many products that people use on their bodies.  There is some recent evidence that this may be harmful and we do not use it. "
